What Is Zalgo Text?
Zalgo text is a style of corrupted, glitched text created by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks — accent marks, dots, lines — on top of, below, and through normal letters. The result looks like the text is “bleeding”, melting, or corrupted by a supernatural force. The name comes from an internet horror meme character called “Zalgo” that became popular in the mid-2000s.
Technically, Zalgo text is standard Unicode — every device can display it, and it copies and pastes like normal text. However, extreme Zalgo can cause display issues on some older apps, which adds to its unsettling nature.
Zalgo Intensity Levels Explained
Level 1 — Subtle: A few light marks above letters. Still very readable. Good for aesthetic profiles.
Level 2 — Mild: Noticeable corruption. Readable but clearly glitched. Popular for usernames.
Level 3 — Medium: Significant marks above and below. Text starts to feel unstable.
Level 4 — Heavy: Dense stacking of marks. Hard to read — maximum horror effect.
Level 5 — Chaos: Full Zalgo corruption. Text overflows into surrounding lines. Use sparingly!
Where to Use Zalgo Text
Zalgo text is standard Unicode and works on most platforms that support Unicode rendering. However, very high intensity Zalgo may be filtered or display poorly on some apps.

Yes! Discord fully supports Zalgo text in messages, usernames, nicknames, and bios. It is one of the most popular platforms for Zalgo because Discord renders Unicode fully. Level 1–3 Zalgo works best in usernames and bios. Level 4–5 is great for dramatic messages in horror or RP servers.
Zalgo text is completely safe — it is just Unicode combining characters. It cannot harm devices or apps. However, extremely high-intensity Zalgo (hundreds of stacked characters) can cause some older or performance-limited apps to slow down when rendering it. Our Level 1–3 settings are perfectly safe for all normal use.

Yes. To remove Zalgo marks from text, you can paste it into a Unicode normalizer or text cleaner tool that strips combining characters. You can also use our generator — type the Zalgo text in, and the original clean letters are still present underneath the combining marks.
